OSD is failing after server and MECM upgrade

Hi,

We just finished upgrading the operating system (Server 2022 Datacenter) on our primary and secondary site servers and upgraded MECM to 2409. I created a new boot image (no drivers applied) and assigned it to a test task sequence. Operating system deployment is failing since this work was completed. The process reaches the point where I can select the task sequence to run and shortly after that, the process fails with the following notable errors:

0x0000000D

Failed to run the action: TW - Set Configuration Profile ID. Error 13

Failed to run the last action: Error in the task sequence. Result 13. Execution of task sequence failed.

Since the ADK was already upgraded, my old boot images are missing the optional component tab in properties so I can see what drivers were part of the old boot image.

How do I get past this error message?

Thank you!

Rob

    Hello,

Here are a few steps you can try to resolve this issue:

Check the Task Sequence: Ensure that all steps in your task sequence are correctly configured and that there are no missing references or packages. Sometimes, after an upgrade, certain packages or steps might need to be reconfigured.

Review Boot Image Configuration: Since your old boot images are missing the optional component tab, you might need to recreate the boot images with the necessary drivers and components. Make sure to include the network and storage drivers required for your deployment environment.

Update ADK and WinPE: Verify that you have the latest version of the Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (ADK) and the Windows Preinstallation Environment (WinPE) add-on installed. Sometimes, mismatched versions can cause deployment issues.

    Have a nice day.

    Best Regards,

    Hania

    Hi,

It turns out that when I upgraded to 2409, this new version no longer supports the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT). Our task sequences were designed in a way that uses MDT heavily.

This is the root cause of my problem. We will be moving to MECM 2403 after a server restore is completed.

    Thank you,

    Rob
