Windows Admin Center extension for Azure Arc and for Windows Server

Hi,

We have Windows Admin Center extension version 0.44.0.0 for Azure Arc on-boarded Windows Servers and version 2410 just for Windows Servers.

If the Azure Arc Windows server is deployed with WAC extension 0.44.0.0 and there is a requirement from server admin to give access to server outside of Azure Arc, can we deploy WAC version 2410 on the same server ? WAC - Windows Admin Center.

Does having 2 versions on the same server (Arc version and non-Arc version) cause any issues? Does that work?

Everything works smoothly when managing both Azure Arc-enabled servers and regular Windows servers with Windows Admin Center, it’s best to use the same version of WAC for both. This will help avoid any potential conflicts between the two and make your life easier.

Here’s what we recommend:

Try updating both your Azure Arc extension and Windows Admin Center to the latest version. This way, you can manage both types of servers with the same version of WAC, ensuring they work together without issues.

Before applying this change to your live servers, it’s a good idea to test everything in a staging environment. This lets you make sure both Arc and regular server management are functioning properly with the new version.

If you're not able to update the Arc extension to be compatible with the new WAC version, you might want to check if there's a newer version of the Arc extension available that works with 2410.

If updating both to the same version doesn’t work for you, you could consider running two separate WAC instances—one for managing Azure Arc and another for regular Windows servers. But this is a bit more complicated, so I’d recommend the first option if possible.

Thank you. I tried to deploy version 2410 on a azure arc machine that was already running 0.44 version. The deployment froze in the end and I had to remove the version. But, ill try again and see how it goes.

Uninstall the old Azure ARC extension (0.44) completely before trying to install WAC 2410. Establishing two separate versions can cause problems, so it is best to remove the old one first.

Then make sure you use the latest versions of both the Windows Admin Center (WAC) and Azure Arc Extension that are compatible with each other. You can check the online update to ensure that all matches.

When the installation of the old version is canceled, first install the WAC 2410, then match that version Azure Arc Extension.

If possible, I recommend testing the funding on the test server before using it on any live server, just to make sure everything goes well.
