In MacOS, I need to move OneDrive to an external SSD drive. The Mac is a Mac mini and the drive is located in a permanent hub connected to the desktop. The Mac is running MacOS 15.3

I did follow the procedure but there is no synchronization. SSD drive is formatted APFS, I have tried both APFS and APFS Encrypted. The same result.

What can I do?

    Hi @Pedro Nunez

Is there any error message during the process?

I suggest you try following steps to have a check:

    • Make sure OneDrive is syncing properly before you attempt to move it to the external SSD.
    • Click on the OneDrive icon in the menu bar.
    • Go to Preferences > Account and click Unlink this Mac.
    • After unlinking your account, restart OneDrive. It will prompt you to set up OneDrive again.
    • During the setup, when it asks you for the location of your OneDrive folder, choose the Change location, select the desired location on your external APFS drive and follow the wizard steps to confirm it.
    • OneDrive will now start syncing with the external SSD. Depending on the number of files, this might take some time.
    • Ensure the SSD is connected and mounted when your Mac is on and when you want to sync your files.

    Hi:

The same situation, when I tried to activate the new location this message is shown: Screenshot 2025-02-12 at 11.31.59 AM

If I encrypt the drive happens what I already indicated in my previous comment.

    Then, I am lock here!

Thank you again for your kind advice!

    Hi Jiajing!

    Thank you for asking!

I just got tired of trying to be honest! Neither alternative work!

I even have two different OneDrive accounts one is corporate and the other is personal in both cases the outcome is the same. I do not know, it might be the new MacOS 15.3.1 or something else.

What I can tell you, it is an important limitation that you cannot use auxiliary storage when your HD is limited. In my case, I am running a MacMini M4 Pro and the additional storage is in a Hub designed as a stand to place the computer.

I you have any new ideas I would try,

    Thank you again!
