MS learn path has the following table:

Forest type Description
User This type of forest synchronizes all objects from Microsoft Entra ID, including any user accounts created in an on-premises AD DS environment.
User This type of forest synchronizes all objects from Microsoft Entra ID, including any user accounts created in an on-premises AD DS environment.
Resource This type of forest synchronizes only users and groups created directly in Microsoft Entra ID.

Is there an actual documentation page for Entra DS that supports this claim?

For example, installation manual does not mention word "Type" even once. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/entra/identity/domain-services/tutorial-create-instance

This question is related to the following Learning Module

    Hi Maxim Fomin,

Thank you for reaching out to us on the Microsoft Q&A platform.

I understand your concern about the mention of "User / Resource forest type" in the learning path and the absence of this term in the installation manual.

    To address your query:

User / Resource forest type" is a concept of a more comprehensive discussion of hybrid identity and domain services, specifically in cases involving on-premises Active Directory and Azure AD DS. Though the installation manual guides step by step on creating an Entra DS instance, the learning path and related modules are meant to provide a comprehensive view of the implementation of hybrid identity, with resource forests included as part of advanced configurations.

At this time, there isn’t a specific documentation page dedicated solely to the "User / Resource forest type" terminology in the context of Entra DS. However, the learning path you referenced is designed to provide a high-level understanding of these concepts as part of a hybrid identity strategy.

Microsoft strives to ensure accuracy and clarity in all its documentation, and we appreciate your feedback. If you’d like, I can escalate this to the documentation team for further review and consideration for future updates.

In the meantime, if you have specific questions about implementing a resource forest or hybrid identity scenario, I’d be happy to assist or connect you with additional resources.
