GPT 4o assistant not accepting PDF attachment in message thread (accepts image)

Hi.

1. We're having difficulty uploading PDF attachments to a message thread for GPT 4o based assistant.
2. We're able to upload images but unable to upload PDF to the thread message.
3. We've enabled File Search and Code Interpreter from Assistants playground

Question:

1. Is it mandatory to upload a PDF file to the Assistant's vector store and then point to the File ID in the message instead?
2. Is PDF file upload allowed in message thread? Message also has a temp vector store. What may be the issue with PDF not being uploaded and images can be uploaded. Thanks
