VM won‘t boot after data disk migration

Dear Community,

we have an Azure VM with SUSE Linux running an SAP HANA Database. Recently we had to migrate a few data disks to new ones because of a sizing error (disks were too big, we needed smaller ones).

Migration was successful, but somehow, if the original disks are detached and the new ones are attached the vm won‘t boot. We are not able to connect. If the new Disks and the old ones or just the old ones are attached, the VM boots normally.

These are not OS disks like I said and we‘re confused. We get also an error in „deployIfNotExist“ policy

Thanks everyone

Nina

    Hi Bienert, Nina,

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A Platform! Thank you for asking your question here.Check the Mount points /etc/fstab if this is misconfigured then VM boot might fail.
Please check if SAP HANA has any references to the disk IDs or paths.
Check the new disks have the correct UUIDs/labels as referenced in the system.
Did you check if the new disks are properly attached and are visible in the portal.
Check the Azure policy definitions, for which policy id failing and getting error.
If you still face issue, you can try creating a new VM and reattach those new disks to the new VM.

If you have further queries, please do let me know.
