Text Keyboard Shortcuts Not Functioning in Extension on Edge for Mac

Question

We have observed that certain text keyboard shortcuts (Cmd + A, Cmd + C, Cmd + V, and Cmd + X) are unresponsive when used in text input fields within our extension on Microsoft Edge for macOS. These shortcuts function normally in other parts of Edge and in other extensions, indicating that the issue might be isolated to this specific extension environment.

Environment Details

• Operating System: macOS (Sequoia v15.2)

• Browser Version: Microsoft Edge (latest stable release)

• Extension: Salesforce

Issue Description

When attempting common text-editing shortcuts (select all, copy, paste, cut) inside text input fields (e.g., a search bar or form fields) in the extension’s user interface, the shortcuts do not produce the expected results. Instead, no action is taken, requiring the user to rely on right-click context menus or other means to perform text operations.

Actual Result: No text is selected, copied, pasted, or cut when using these shortcuts in the extension’s text fields.

Expected Result: The shortcuts should behave as they do elsewhere in Edge, allowing users to select, copy, paste, or cut text as needed.

Additional Observations

• Testing the same shortcuts in other parts of Edge (e.g., the browser’s own address bar or other extension interfaces) confirms that they work as expected.

• Its only observed on MacOS and not windows.

We kindly request an investigation from the Microsoft Edge team to determine why standard macOS text-editing shortcuts are not recognized or processed in this extension context. If any known workaround or API adjustment is needed, please advise. We will gladly provide additional logs or test scenarios as needed.

Thank you for your feedback. The issue of "Keyboard shortcuts not working on extension side panels in Edge macOS" has been resolved on Edge Beta 132.0.2957.111.

I have tested your extension on Edge Beta macOS and can confirm the keyboard shortcuts work. If you want to test on Edge Beta, you can navigate to Become a Microsoft Edge Insider and install Edge Beta. Edge Stable will also release this fix in the next versions.

UPDATE (2025.1.27)

This issue has been fixed on Stable 132.0.2957.127. Please upgrade to the latest version and have a check.
