Via reporting, I can see the following ClientTypes are in use. But what actual apps do they all map to?

  1. cpc.web.beta
  2. com.microsoft.rdc.windows.wa.msrdc.msix.x64
  3. com.microsoft.rdc.html
  4. com.microsoft.rdc.windows.msrdc.x64
  5. com.microsoft.rdc.windows.store
  6. com.microsoft.rdc.windows.msrdc.msix.x64
  7. com.microsoft.rdc.ios
  8. com.microsoft.rdc.macos

e.g. Which is the new Windows App, via the old Store Remote Desktop app, the MSI Remote Desktop app, etc. Not 100% obvious.

    Hi Herbert, Robin,
Thank you for reaching out to us on the Microsoft Q&A forum.

In remote desktop, ClientTypes refer to the different types of client applications or devices that users can use to connect to a remote desktop session or a remote server. These client types can vary based on the operating system, device type, or method of connection. Understanding ClientTypes is important for ensuring compatibility, optimizing user experience, and managing access to remote resources.

    • cpc.web.beta: This refers to the Remote Desktop Web Client, which allows users to access Remote Desktop services directly through a web browser without installing any additional software.
    • com.microsoft.rdc.windows.wa.msrdc.msix.x64: The new Remote Desktop app for Windows, distributed as an MSIX package for 64-bit systems.
    • com.microsoft.rdc.html: This corresponds to the Remote Desktop Web Client, enabling access via web browsers.
    • com.microsoft.rdc.windows.msrdc.x64: This represents the Remote Desktop client for Windows available as a standalone installer (MSI) for 64-bit systems.
    • com.microsoft.rdc.windows.store: The older Universal Windows Platform (UWP) Remote Desktop app from the Microsoft Store.
    • com.microsoft.rdc.ios: This refers to the Remote Desktop client for iOS devices, allowing connections from iPhones and iPads.
    • com.microsoft.rdc.macos: This denotes the Remote Desktop client for macOS, enabling Mac users to connect to Remote Desktop services.

And also, the new Windows App refers to the MSIX package (com.microsoft.rdc.windows.wa.msrdc.msix.x64), which is the latest and recommended version.
The old Store Remote Desktop app is the UWP app (com.microsoft.rdc.windows.store).
The MSI Remote Desktop app (com.microsoft.rdc.windows.msrdc.x64) was popular before the MSIX version became available.
