Azure Update Manager Keeps Trying to reinstall Extensions then Agent Freezes

Hi all, I have been trying for months to get Azure Update Manager to run reliably to patch on prem servers but am not having much luck.

All the servers are running the latest agent however every day random servers will show "No updates data" and when I check the two update extensions are stuck in "Creating" or "Updating" state. There are no updates to these and the version never changes.

If I restart all the services these usually come good, or I need to clear out the extensions as they may be stuck in failed state, after this they assess and update as expected but then within a few days they are back to this state again, I've disabled auto update of extensions which had no effect.

This is occuring on both Windows and Linux machines and I have scoured the logs on the clients and could not find anything that points to what's causing this.

Is anyone else having similar issues?

    Hi @jbj1181
Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A Platform! Thank you for asking your question here.
First review the logs on Azure Monitor and your servers; Common error messages can give you a reason why some servers are showing "No updates data". If the update tools got stuck in "Creating" or "Updating", try uninstalling and reinstalling them through the Azure Portal or Azure CLI. Make sure the Azure Arc agents on all your servers are up to date to the latest version, as new updates often fix bugs and improve stability. Also, make sure your servers have a stable Internet connection to Azure, as intermittent connections can cause problems.
Analyze any restrictions in your Azure subscription that may affect the update process and monitor Azure Service Health for any ongoing issues that may affect the update manager. If you are still having trouble after trying these steps, I suggest you contact Azure Support for customized help. Finally, exploring community forums can be useful, as other users often share their experiences and solutions to similar issues. I hope these tips help you set things right.
