Regarding the Public Address from Basic to Standard

We are looking to upgrade our Public IP addresses from Basic SKU to Standard SKU without making any modifications to our existing configurations.

Currently, we have a few hardcoded Basic SKU Public IPs that we can transition to Standard SKU. However, it is critical for us to preserve the existing IP addresses during this upgrade.

Could you confirm if Microsoft Support can facilitate a seamless upgrade while retaining the same Public IPs, rather than requiring a more complex migration process?

    Hi Prabhu

Yes, you can upgrade the Basic SKU Public IP addresses to Standard SKU while retaining the same IP addresses.

    Firstly,

    1. The process involves setting the Public IP allocation method to static before disassociating it from the resource.
    2. Once disassociated, the Public IP SKU is upgraded to Standard, and then the IP is re-associated with the resource. This ensures that the IP address remains unchanged during the upgrade process.
    3. For more detailed guidance, you can refer to the documentation (Upgrading a basic public IP address to standard SKU - Guidance | Microsoft Learn) on upgrading Basic SKU Public IP addresses to Standard SKU.

I hope this has been helpful!

    Thanks for the detailed steps.

To successfully update the IP configuration while ensuring minimal disruption, we followed a structured approach:

    Disassociated the Existing IP

    • The first step involved disassociating the current IP assignment to allow for further modifications.
      • This ensured that any dependencies were removed before applying changes.
      Added a Static Assignment
      - We then **added a static assignment** to establish a fixed IP configuration.

         - This prevents dynamic changes and ensures stability for future operations.

**Upgraded the SKU from Basic to Standard**

            - The SKU was **converted from Basic to Standard** to leverage additional features such as enhanced scalability, advanced security, and better performance.

               - This upgrade was essential for aligning with best practices and business requirements.

               **Reassociated the IP**

                  - Finally, the updated IP was **reassociated** to the required resource, ensuring seamless integration and continuity of service.

This approach ensured a smooth transition with minimal downtime while enhancing the network configuration to meet operational needs.
