I am currently familiarising myself with Office 2024 pro and am having problems opening existing files in both Word and Excel.

My approach:

Start

Microsoft 365 Copilot

Excel

I want to open a displayed document

I get this message

I click: yes

then this:

I click: ok

Excel opens without a document / folder

I can now select ‘File new’ but also ‘Last used’ and only now is the desired document opened and can be edited.

I have added this folder as trustworthy in the Trust Centre.

This procedure is feasible, but certainly not what the inventor intended.

Side question: I don't have a product key, the package was installed by the manufacturer. Will I lose the activation and licence if I reinstall it?

According to the picture, you are using Office LTSC version of Office, it is one of volume license versions. They generally use KMS or MAK method to activate Office.

• For KMS, as long as your machine is connected to a KMS host of an organization, Office can be activated.
• For MAK, you need to enter MAK key, and you cannot activate it again without the key.

Please press Win + R key combination to open the ‘Run’ dialogue box.
