Hi Community,

What is the risk of upgrade to current branch 2409 when you have Windows 10 task sequence with MDT?

If yes, is there by way to get rid of MDT from Windows 10 task sequence?

Thank you!

    Hi, @Anonymous

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Q&A forum.

Microsoft has announced the removal of MDT integration with Configuration Manager. This means that if you upgrade to version 2409, you may face potential task sequence corruption and modification failures if MDT task sequence steps are still present.

To remove MDT from your Windows 10 task sequence, you may follow these steps:

    1. Identify MDT Steps: Open your task sequence in the Configuration Manager console and identify all steps that are related to MDT.
    2. Remove MDT Steps: Delete or replace the MDT-specific steps with equivalent native SCCM steps. For example, replace MDT's "Use Toolkit Package" with SCCM's "Run Command Line" or "Run PowerShell Script" steps.
    3. Test the Task Sequence: Thoroughly test the modified task sequence in a lab environment before deploying it in production. This will help identify and resolve any issues that may arise due to the removal of MDT steps.
