I have been encountering persistent issues while attempting to install the 2025-02 Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 11 Version 24H2 (KB5052093). The update consistently fails with the error code 0x80070005 (Access Denied), and despite trying various troubleshooting steps, the problem remains unresolved.

During the installation process, I receive an error message stating, "Something didn’t go as planned. No need to worry—undoing changes. Please keep your computer on." I suspect this is related to a permissions issue. To address this, I attempted to adjust the permissions within the SoftwareDistribution folder, but the issue persists.

  • Windows Version: Windows 11 Version 24H2
  • Error Message: "Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80070005."

  • Ran the Windows Update Troubleshooter.
  • Reset Windows Update components by renaming the SoftwareDistribution folder.
  • Checked for and repaired corrupted system files using SFC and DISM.

Hania Hian posted the cause can be related to 3rd party antivirus software. I disabled my AV software (Malware Bytes} and the Windows updated without any trouble.

Thank you Hania for the tip.

    Hello,

"800070005" means "access denied". It is usually a permission issue.

    1. If there is any third party antivirus software installed, please remove it temporarily.
    2. Try to update in clean boot environment.
