Hello. I have already sold my mobile phone to a friend, but I just realized that there is a Microsoft authenticator app on it. I have deleted all accounts and wiped all the data on the phone. I want to know if there is any way I can log into my Microsoft account without authentication through this application. Thank you.

    Hi Weerawat Yomngam,

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft Community Forums.

There are the following points to note:

    1. Account Unlinking and Data Deletion

When you remove the Microsoft Authenticator app from your phone and erase all data, typically the link between the app and your Microsoft account is also broken. This is because the Authenticator app relies on specific data on the device (such as keys and tokens) to authenticate, and this data is erased along with it when you wipe the device.

    1. Unable to log in from an old device

Without this critical data, the Microsoft Authenticator application on older devices will not be able to generate valid authentication codes or perform other authentication operations. Therefore, it is theoretically impossible to sign in to your Microsoft account via the Authenticator app on the old device without authentication.

    1. Account Security Recommendations

Nonetheless, to further enhance account security, it is recommended that you sign in to your Microsoft account immediately after selling your phone and check the security options in your account settings.

Make sure that no other devices or applications are authorized to access your account, especially those that you no longer use.

If possible, enable dual authentication (if not already enabled) and make sure your account password is complex and difficult to guess.

    1. Follow-up

Considering that you have deleted all the data on your phone and the link between the Microsoft Authenticator app and your Microsoft account has most likely been broken, you can now confidently continue to use Microsoft services on other devices without worrying about the security risks posed by the Authenticator app on your old device.

    Best regards

    Neuvi

Since I can't change the other method, I'd like to know if there's any way to know where the code that appears here is being sent.
