I am experiencing the following error while trying to deploy a SharePoint Add-in,
Error occurred in deployment step 'Install SharePoint Add-in': The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden (Error Screenshot attached here).
However, the issue persists.
Could you assist me in diagnosing and fixing this issue?

Yes, it has admin rights, and it was working till last Thursday(19-Dec-24), but it got suddenly stopped next day. is there any deprecated SharePoint add in feature? If yes, then what would be the alternatives.
Have you installed update or made some changes for SharePoint server?
Per my knowledge, users of SharePoint server running on-premises can, if configured by the farm admins, install SharePoint Add-Ins from the public marketplace or from the app catalog. The option to acquire and use SharePoint Add-Ins via the app catalog will not be impacted by this retirement, acquiring SharePoint Add-Ins from the public marketplace will stop working from April 2nd, 2026.

is this resolved? we are also seeing this problem. It was working in december. We are on sharepoint sever 2016

Is this issue resolved? I created a new project using SharePoint Online on January 2nd, and it worked fine at the time. However, the same error is now occurring again in both existing and new projects.
@Anonymous Is there any update on this ? We are thinking that it might be the December security updates that have caused this problem as multiple people have experienced the problem at the same time ?
For SharePoint online, there were some changes in our back. Registering apps through appregnew.aspx with "localhost" in the app domain URL is not supported anymore, and when debugging in Visual Studio, internally is sets localhost automatically and maybe because of that, it fails.
For SharePoint server, you could wait for new CU to fix this issue.

If the issue only affected localhost, that would be fine. However, I tested it with an already running application in our staging environment.
I made changes to the existing application and deployed only the web component of the project. The changes were applied successfully, and the application continued running without issues.
However, after updating the Client ID and Secret using appregnew.aspx, I updated the version and deployed both the Add-in package and the web app to the staging environment. After this, user authentication failed, indicating a problem with the SharePoint Add-in.
@Anonymous Thanks. Any information on when it will be fixed my Microsoft will be useful. I have already installed the Jan CU but it has not fixed the problem.

I'm running into the same issue. Any updates? Any workarounds? When I try running a SharePoint add-in from Visual Studio, I'm getting that exact same 403 error. VS 2022 can retract an app on my SP Development site, but won't install it. In the SP dev site > Site Contents, the app is greyed out and just says, "Sorry, something went wrong with adding the app".

Is there an update on this issue Microsoft? We have just come to make some changes for a client and are unable to run up the solution in development with the same issue above. I understand you are deprecating SharePoint add in apps in 2026, but we arent quite there yet so why has it stopped working already.
Anyone have any success with a workaround?
