Hello Microsoft community,

I encountered a perplexing issue where my desktop's OS spontaneously reverted from Windows 10 to Windows 7 Ultimate. This unexpected change resulted in the disappearance of my customized desktop settings, along with the unavailability of Disk partitions "G" and "H."

After some troubleshooting, I managed to make all disk partitions visible and successfully retrieved data from various partitions, excluding partition "H" where I had crucial data stored.

Despite these efforts, my system is currently running on the earlier version, Windows 7 Ultimate, and I'm seeking guidance on how to revert back to the original Windows 10 version.

Any assistance or insights into resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your support!

I see this is a year old question, but after a Windows update on 3/8/25 I encountered Windows 10 automatically booting to Windows 7, so I am providing the solution for my particular computer. After a bit of troubleshooting I discovered the BIOS was not detecting my primary SSD hard drive on SATA1, which is a 480GB SSD drive. I unplugged all other SATA drives and left just the SSD on SATA1, which the BIOS now detected. Following a successful boot I was now in Windows 10 again, so apparently after the Windows update the BIOS was not detecting the primary SSD on SATA1 and booting off of an older drive that had Windows 7 installed.
