Enforcing Authentication for Password Autofill in Microsoft Edge on macOS

Hello,

We are in the process of making Microsoft Edge the default browser for our company on macOS and are currently configuring policies. One of our key security requirements is to ensure that password autofill prompts users for authentication once per session (via Touch ID, password).

We have reviewed the available Edge policies for macOS, but we haven’t found a setting that explicitly enforces authentication before autofilling credentials.

Is there a way to achieve this requirement via configuration profiles (PLIST for jamf deployment) or any other method on macOS? If not, are there any planned features or workarounds that could help enforce this behavior?

Thanks in advance for your support!

    Hi @Anonymous

You could check if this policy PrimaryPasswordSetting meet your requirement. It configures a setting that asks users to enter their device password while using password autofill.

If you set this policy to 'WithDevicePassword', users will have to enter their device password (or preferred mode of authentication under Windows) to prove their identity before their password is auto filled.

If you set this policy to 'WithCustomPrimaryPassword', users will be asked to create their custom password and then to be redirected to Settings. After the custom password is set, users can authenticate themselves using the custom password and their passwords will get auto-filled after successful authentication.

If this policy doesn't meet your demands, I think there's no other method. I suggest you could click ··· menu --> Help and feedback --> Send feedback in Edge to provide feedback.
