It sounds like you're experiencing an issue where the Word icon on your taskbar isn't showing recent documents, while other applications are working fine. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve this:
First please Check Windows Settings:
- Open the Settings app (gear icon on your Start Menu).
- Go to Personalization > Start.
- Ensure "Show recently opened items in Jump Lists on Start and Taskbar" is turned on.
Then Clear Automatic Destinations Folder:
- Press Win + R to open the Run dialog.
- Type %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations and press Enter.
- Delete all files in this folder. This will clear the recent items for all applications, and they will be re-added as you use them.
