Hello,

We are currently in the process of migrating our Active Directory domain and associated services from an old domain (DomainA.com) to a new domain (DomainB.com). The steps are as follows:

Current Setup:

  • We have an Active Directory domain hosted on Microsoft Azure as a VM named domainA.com.
    • We are planning to create a new Active Directory forest with the domain name domainB.com.
      • We intend to use Quest Binary Tools to migrate users, groups, workstations, and other resources from domainA.com to domainB.com.
      Services Involved:
      - We are using **SharePoint Online** and **OneDrive**.

         - Currently, both SharePoint and OneDrive are using URLs under the domain *domainA.com*.

         **Objective:**

            - We need to **change the URLs** for SharePoint Online and OneDrive to use the new domain *domainB.com* instead of *domainA.com*.

Questions:

  • What is the recommended process for changing the URLs for SharePoint Online and OneDrive when migrating to a new Active Directory domain (domainB.com)?
  • Are there any tools or best practices available to help us accomplish this change without data loss or service disruption?
  • If a domain migration involves changing SharePoint Online and OneDrive URLs, how can we ensure that user data and permissions are correctly transferred between the domains?
  • Are there any steps to consider when performing this migration from an Azure-hosted AD domain to ensure smooth operations with Microsoft 365 services (like SharePoint, OneDrive)?

Any advice, best practices, or resources would be greatly appreciated

    Hi @Ahmed Essam,

Using a reliable migration tool like ShareGate, Content Matrix and etc. is recommended in this scenario. They support bulk migration, permission retention, and scheduling to minimize downtime. Contact the support of these 3rd party tools and let them know your requirement, I believe they will give you a satisfactory solution.
