Hi,

We have deployed the Purview Information Package from SCCM to the users. It has failed in 30% of the device.

While investigating we have received the below image when executing the application manually in the device using CMD. (We are only using powershell module with this command "PurviewInfoProtection.exe PowerShellOnly=true /quiet")

Below popup is coming while doing the installation.

I have already checked Microsoft Azure Information protection was previously installed in the, but it is not there now.

I would like to know why it is failing and giving this popup. And how to resolve this.

Thankyou in advance for your answer. Thanks!

    @Sundram Sontirkey

    Greetings & Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum! Thanks for posting your query!

    The installation issue you're encountering with the Purview Information Protection client may be related to several factors. Since you mentioned that the installation fails on 30% of devices and that you are using the command PurviewInfoProtection.exe PowerShellOnly=true /quiet, it is important to ensure that all prerequisites are met.

    The popup you are seeing suggests the Purview Information Protection installer is trying to interact with a previous installation of the Azure Information Protection unified labeling client (AzInfoProtection_UL.msi). Even though you've checked, there might be leftover files or registry entries from the older client.

    Could you please try a more thorough cleanup that might help you:

    Checking for a Microsoft-provided uninstallation tool for Azure Information Protection.

    Manually searching the registry (using regedit - be cautious!) for keys related to "AzInfoProtection" or "Azure Information Protection."

    Manually searching your file system (Program Files, Program Files (x86), %AppData%, %LocalAppData%) for related files and folders.

    Consider using a reputable system cleaning tool like CCleaner. Also, please double-check your SCCM deployment to ensure you're not accidentally deploying an older version of the AIP client.

    For more details, please refer: Install or upgrade the information protection client

    I hope this information helps. Please do let us know if you have any further queries.
