How do I go from Enhanced backup to standard backup for Azure

Hello,

Pretty simple question which doesn't seem to be simple to achieve.

I have an Azure VM that has the enhanced backup enabled but I want to go to the standard backup because I do not need the enhanced backup.

Can someone tell me how to do it when I try to do it I keep getting an error that I cannot have the standard backup when enhanced backup is in use. I removed the association of that VM from the enhanced backup but I cannot get it to work.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hello @Anonymous Thank you for reaching out to us on Microsoft Q&A platform. Happy to help!

I understand that you want to move from Enhanced backup to standard backup for your Azure VM.

In short - There is no direct way to do this. You need to unprotect the VM from the vault and then re-protect it.

    Steps to follow:
First, you must disable the Soft Delete

    User's image

In your Backup Item, proceed to stop the backup

    User's image

You must choose Delete backup data

    User's image

Once this is done, you will be able to enable standard backup policy for your VM.

Hope this helps. Feel free to write back to us if you have any further questions!
