Hyper-V VM / Google Drive syncing issue

Hi everyone,

I have a server running **Windows Server 2022**, named **"DATA SERVER"**. This server has two drives: **C and D**.

What I Did:

  1. **Enabled Hyper-V** and created a virtual machine (VM) called **"DATA VM"**.
  2. Used **Disk2VHD.exe** to create **VHDX files** of the host machine's **C and D drives** and attached them to the VM.
  3. After creating the VM, it initially showed the **same device name** as the host machine.
  4. To differentiate, I renamed the VM to **"DP-VM"** via **Computer → Properties**.
  5. Now, both the **host and VM** are running simultaneously.

The Problem:

  • I installed **Google Drive** on **both the host and the VM**.
  • On the **host**, I set up **"FOLDER DATA SERVER"** to sync.
  • On the **VM**, I set up **"FOLDER DATA VM"** to sync.
  • Ideally, these folders should appear under **separate computers** in Google Drive.
  • However, Google Drive **groups both under the same computer name**, causing files from both machines to sync under a **single computer entry**.

Question:

Why is Google Drive treating these two separate machines as one, and how can I make them appear as distinct devices?

    Hi Faizan M1,

It appears the issue is more related to Google Drive. Since Google Drive is out of the scope the Microsoft Support Community, it is recommended to ask in the Google Drive Community.
