VM has created a duplicate vhdx ending copyforscan.vhdx.

Hi,

This is something I've never came across before. I have a Windows Server 2019 VM with 2 hard drives. The system drive has duplicated with the name ending copyforscan.vhdx. I've no idea why or how to remove it. Is it safe to just delete it? I've searched for it and had zero results come back.

Any advice would be appreciated. This isn't affecting the VM.

    Hi,

Hyper-V does not create copies for virtual disk files and I can neither find anything about copyforscan.vhdx.

However, it is not recommended to delete the duplicate vhdx file without understanding the cause of its creation. It is possible that the file was created as a result of a third-party backup tool or some else.
