Hi Team,

I am using File server on Hyper-V VM and 2 disk (2012 r2 OS and Data Disk). Now I am planning to create new vm with os 2025 with attached existing data disk in this server. My question is 2nd data disk sharing and file & Folder permission will remain same or need to reshare & assign permission again ?

how we can keep same sharing and File & folder permission after attaching disk in new server.

    Hello,

To maintain the same sharing and file/folder permissions after attaching the existing data disk to a new VM with Windows Server 2022, you need to ensure that the disk is properly attached and recognized by the new VM.

Once the disk is attached, you should be able to access the files and folders with the existing permissions intact. However, you may need to re-share the folders on the new VM and ensure that the appropriate permissions are set for sharing.

It's recommended to verify the permissions after attaching the disk to the new VM to ensure that everything is set up correctly. If there are any permission issues, you may need to adjust them accordingly on the new VM.

    Best Regards,

    Hania Lian
