Could you please confirm whether Azure ensures that OS and data disks remain intact and are automatically reattached post-resize ? Does Azure take care of managing the detaching and attaching back of these disks provided the new SKU supports the required number of disks .

    Hey Aby,

I jast find yours question about azure vm resizing and disk management. Yea, azzure’s got your back on this one. When you resize a vm, the os and data disks stay intact and get automatically reattached after the resize, as long as the new sku supports the number of disks you’ve got. Azure handles the detaching and reattaching like a pro no manual hassle needed. It’s like magic, but with fewer rabbits and more cloud. And hey, if the new sku doesn’t support your disk setup, azure will let you know before you commit. So, no nasty surprises. It’s like trying to fit a 2TB SSD into a floppy drive just won’t work, and azure’s smart enough to tell you upfront. Hope that clears it up! Let me know if you need more deets. rgds, alex

    Thanks for reaching Microsoft Q&A.

    Resizing and Disk Attachment process-

    • OS and Data Disks: Azure automatically reattaches both OS and data disks after resizing.
    • Disk Limits: Ensure the new VM size supports the required number of disks.
    • Downtime: Resizing involves a short downtime managed by Azure.
    • Best Practices: Always back up your VM before resizing and test it afterward.

For more details, refer to the official Azure documentation on resizing VMs and managing disks - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machines/sizes/resize-vm?tabs=portal, https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machines/windows/expand-disks

Azure simplifies the process but always check SKU limits and maintain backups.
