I create a simple workflow with sharepoint 2010 platform type.

I set “start workflow automatically when an item is created” as a start options.

But when I want to publish it I saw below error:

error

If I set the workflow to run only manually, the workflow publish correctly and it work, but when I select automatically start when item created, fails to publish.

Could you help me why this error happened?

What is the version of SharePoint you are using? Have you installed recent update for SharePoint?

Whether all workflows occur this error when setting as "start workflow automatically when an item is created"?

You could check below tips to troubleshoot the issue.

1.Automatic workflows must be correctly associated with a list or library. Go to List Settings -> Workflow Settings and make sure the workflow is properly associated with the list or library.

2.Try to use the account has permission but not administrator to trigger workflows.

3.Make sure the Workflow History List and Workflow Task List are present and correctly configured under Site Settings -> Site Libraries and Lists. If either list is corrupted or misconfigured, workflows will not trigger correctly.

4.Go to Services on Server -> Check the SharePoint Timer Service is running.

5.Delete all folders in the following directory in local: (1)C:\Users\USER\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SharePoint Designer\ProxyAssemblyCache\

(2)C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WebsiteCache\ don’t delete the folders, just delete the contents of the folders

If the issue is still not fixed, try to uninstall and install SharePoint Designer 2013.
