Hello!

There are about 70 pieces "Lenovo ThinkPad L15 Gen 4" laptops. 10 pieces of these machines have not been able to load a network image for some time, because the response file shown in the image throws an error, even if there is no response file specified for the image.

Error message: "Windows could not parse or process the unattend answer file for pass [specialize]. The settings specified in the answer file cannot be applied. The error was detected while processing settings for component [Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup]"

What I tried and it doesn't work:

  • No matter where I install the machines
  • No matter what network image (Win10, Win11)
  • It doesn't matter if there is an answer file or if it's good or bad (there used to be a Fuji series that only loaded the image with the wrong response file, otherwise it ran to the same error)
  • The images upload well to many other machines (answer files too)
  • Deleting AD account didn't help
  • BIOS update doesn't help either
  • BIOS Factory reset doesn't do anything (under Security tab) (Intel ME, Frimware recovery...)
  • A long time ago (1 year), these machines were also installed from a network image
  • Secure boot enabled/disabled doesn't matter
  • There is a problem only with network image installation, and only with these 10 machines out of the approx. 70 that I installed (USB installation is fine)
  • I installed one with basic Windows from a USB and installed Lenovo Update, which I used to update everything, but even after that the network image installation did not work on the particular machine.

I can think of another Intel problem (Intel ME, etc.) - although that's the problem, it doesn't matter, because sometimes the same thing is not good, and if it's different, there's still a problem

Has anyone encountered such a problem? What are you trying? Unfortunately, I'm running out of ideas.

Thanks in advance if anyone has any suggestions.
