VSS Shadow copies none existent

Hello,

I am trying to get one of our servers to back up. This is proving difficult as I can't figure out what is wrong with my Shadow Copies so I can't really do much. I have tried adding more storage (only about 30GB but it was a 60GB disk so its a x1.5 incresess.) I have set the Shadow copies to unlimited.

I have done everything in hearing from Quest

It is also a Virtual Machine on HyperV. The other VMs running on the same server are fine. I would like to avoid rebuilding it as it hasn't backed up since 26/03/2024

It says to go to Mircosoft but they never come back to me so I was hoping someone here would have a similar issue and be able to help?

Hi George,

Thanks for your post. Can I know if you have met any error message during the failed backup process. For example, A Volume Shadow Copy Service Operation failed. Detailed Error: The volume shadow copy operation failed with error 0x800423F4. View the event log for more information.

Also, please go to the Application log and see if there is any evidence with Source: Microsoft-Windows-Backup

Hi Ian,

This is a screenshot I got of the Error on Quest. I'll try and get the log file now for you.

No Backup folder would this be an issue? Also how do I find where you are on about?

There is no Backup folder on the application and Service Logs would have something to do with it.

Thanks for your reply. Based on the error message, the System or Provider Has Insufficient Storage Space for VSS copies. Errors of this type generally arise due to insufficient disk space for shadow copies on one or more Windows OS volumes during backup plan execution. In some cases, system reserved partitions cause a significant shadow copy volume increase. To learn more about VSS snapshots, refer to theVolume Shadow Copy Servicesection at docs.microsoft.com. Would you please try if expanding the VSS storage space or delete old shawdow copies can take effect?

Hi Ian,

I have expanded the Disk disk by about 30GB (It had 50GB before now has 80GB) and deleted all shadow copies however It hasn't helped sadly. It still doesn't allow for shadow copies to be created still.

Also thanks for the advice. I'll make sure to be careful before clicking on anything!
