Best Practice to Monitor Azure Maps Transactions

I'm wondering if there is an easy way to track the number of Azure Maps transactions I'm using? I've explored the Monitoring section of my Azure Maps resource a little bit, and so far this is the best I can come up with: azureMapsUsage

This chart shows my "usage" over time but I'm pretty sure it's counting API Calls, which isn't as helpful as it could be if I'm billed in transactions (since API calls and transactions aren't necessarily one-to-one). Before I sit down and start trying to work out the math, I figured I'd ask the community if there are any other tools or resources that will tell me my transaction consumption? Not only will this save me time, but then I can also avoid user-error.

Hi Larissa,

There are a few ways to set limits in Azure but you are essentially billed in transactions, just per "bunches" of typically 1000. A Bing search of https://www.bing.com/search?q=understanding+azure+maps+transactions will get you to a helpful page, https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-maps/understanding-azure-maps-transactions and the left menu has sections like "Concepts" and "How to Guides" that may have some specific topics that might help with your specific use case.

As a side note, in the screen shot you show, there is a "New Alert Rule" option you could leverage if you are just wanting to watch for a specific usage watermark. In Azure Billing there is an option to set a limit based on $ value so your choice really depends what kind of limit you are looking to set. Note that setting such limits is an Azure all-up functionality option and not specific to Azure Maps.

Yes, and this is all helpful and I very much appreciate the time you took to respond. Maybe I just don't get it yet but I'm still curious does Azure report metrics to me as transactions already or do I have to convert the reported metrics into transactions?

I could create an alert, but when I get the alert will it tell me I've reached 5K transactions or 5K API calls (which I then need to convert to transactions)? All I really care about is an easy way to get at my transaction consumption; if that's using the metrics and doing a manual conversion referencing some of the documentation you provided then okay, but if there's some other feature of Azure I can use for that then even better.

I've been trying to use the Cost Explorer but am running into a lot of road blocks with things being unavailable for me to set up, but that's a story for another question. Thanks again for your time!

I have only seen either transactions (1 transaction) or Consumption Unit (CU which I think is generally 1K transactions but might be unique based on what the consumption is measured by as you noted). The team that knows this stuff would be Azure Billing, but you likely can tell if you are self-monitoring your usage and then compare with the report.
