How can I get a South African based IP address when creating a public IP address?

Question

When I create a public IP address, I keep getting a US based IP address when I search it on "whois". According to regulations I need the IP address to be in south africa as I selected the region to be south africa north.

I just wanted to verify with you that you are indeed selecting "South Africa North" when creating the specific IP?

I did the same test with both VM and a NAT gateway and seems to be getting a correct result.

And when you select the region it should be connected to that specific datacenter for many technical purposes and functions.

If you have verified that the public IP specific resource is in South Africa and it still shows up as US i would probably set a support ticket to Microsoft to se what's going on withing your Azure environment.

• May I ask what region you are selecting while creating the Public IP Address?
• I see you are using 3rd party "Whois" tools
  • Please use Azure IP Lookup
  • This would give you the correct region of the IP
• Can you please tell us what region you get in Azure IP Lookup

Additionally, you can use Microsoft IP Range GeoLocation to validate the region of an Azure IP Address.
