wbadmin: The server threw an exception

I migrated (all) my server disks to a new system, including an external USB-connected HDD used for backups. That went (mostly) well, but I have a problem with Windows Server Backup. When I start the wbadmin console, under Local Backup I get the following:

A fatal error occured during a Windows Server Backup snap-in (Wbadmin.msc) operation. Error details: The server threw an exception. Close wbadmin.msc and then restart it.

Scheduled backups are not running anymore and I get the following in the Event log:

Level: Error / Source: Application Error / Event ID: 1000 / Task Category: (100)
Details:
Faulting application name: wbengine.exe, version: 10.0.17763.1282, time stamp: 0x6722838e
Faulting module name: wbengine.exe, version: 10.0.17763.1282, time stamp: 0x6722838e

Faulting process id: 0xdec
Faulting application start time: 0x01d6b0648bd31bd8

Report Id: 75f9673f-fd7d-4105-86fa-c53fe4b81243

Faulting package-relative application ID:

Any ideas on what's going on here?

    Hi,

Please try to use the following command in CMD to delete the old backup catalog: wbadmin delete catalog

    • Remarks

If you delete the backup catalog of a computer, you'll no longer be able to get to any backups created for that computer using the Windows Server Backup snap-in. However, if you can get to another backup location and run the wbadmin restore catalog command, you can restore the backup catalog from that location.

We strongly recommend you create a new backup after you delete a backup catalog.

    Thanks for your time!
    Best Regards,
    Anne
