Every time I open MS Word, I get a Run-Time Error 53 message. It says:

I have the same problem. The file linkCreation.dotm is already deleted but I still have the same error message when starting Word. The folder ~/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office/User Content.localized/Startup.localized/Word is empty!

This new problem occurs since I updated to Sequioa 15.0.

I was searching for ages... All old solutions won't work. My folder was empty. No file like "linkCreation.dotm" and "SaveAsAdobePDF.ppam" was there.

Use the Library folder and NOT the User/Library/

--> Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Office 365/User Content/Startup

Both files are now in there.

Afterwards you will be getting an error when opening Powerpoint, but now you're able to go to Add-ins and remove the Adobe Add-in via "-". This was not possible before and unselecting always activated it again on startup.

OK, this actually worked! The key was to log in as Admin, not user, in order to make the change stick.

While the instructions yo fix applied prior to Sequoia MAC OS 15, , the (-) button is now greyed next to linkCreation.dotm. Furthermore, the folder you point to where linkCreation.dotm used to be to be deleted, now remains empty - no "linkCreation.dotm" file to delete there or anywhere in the LIBRAY folder. Word is looking for it at startup and we cannot find a way to tell word not to look for it and stop the error 53 messages at each startup or file opening. It may be adobe's doing but we should be able to isolate word from this. Spent over an hour with MSFT support to no avail.......

Yeah, this problem recently started for me, too, when I updated to Sequoia. The "linkCreation.dotm" file is NOT in Word, so I can't delete it. Would love to get help with this issue.

Microsoft Office Support has no clue. The only solution seems to be is to either give up Word or give up Acrobat Pro. (or live with the errors all the time. I need Acrobat Pro more than I need word. Have been using Apple's native pages with good results.

Looks like with Sequoia the location of the files to be deleted have moved. You need to follow the path: Macintosh HD - Library - Application Support - Microsoft - Office 365 - User Content - Startup. (make sure you do not use the alternate Library folder under your username, must be the Library folder from the Macintosh HD).

You will find a folder for Word and for Powerpoint where you can then delete :
For Word, delete "linkCreation.dotm" from the Word subfolder under Startup

For PowerPoint, delete "SaveAsAdobePDF.ppam" from the PowerPoint subfolder under Startup

That Macintosh HD path did it for me as well. Thank you so much! Problem started when I downloaded Photoshop Elements the other day.

Following the Macintosh HD - Library - Application Support - Microsoft - Office 365 - User Content - Startup trail, I do not find an Office 365 account or option, I have "vcxmc" and "Teams" folders. The vcxmc folder is empty. The Teams folder does not contain a User Content folder. A Spotlight search on "linkCreation.dotm" comes up empty. My Adobe acrobat version is up to date. What is the solution for users who have the individual user (not Office 365) license?

Hi

This is an caused by incompatible Adobe Add-in. Please try following steps:

Open Word

On the top of your Mac taskbar, click "Tools"

Click on "Templates and Add-ins..." at the bottom

Under Global Templates and Add-ins, selected the item "linkCreation.dotm"

Clicked the little (-) button to delete the item

Restarted MS Word and have a check.

You may also try to delete the file 'linkCreation.dotm' and it is located on this folder:

~/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office/User Content.localized/Startup.localized/Word

I wasn't able to delete it but I was able to uncheck it and I finally was able to open up word again, thanks!! :)

So I deleted this file (and I have since searched but can't find it) but I still get the error message. Each time I try to open a document, I get the "Runtime Error 53" message. So I have to force quit Word, re-open it, uncheck the box for "linkCreation.dotM" under Templates and Add-Ins, and then I can open a file. Then it starts all over again when I quit Word , re-open it: the box is checked again!

Same for me. In the past this solution would work for a few weeks or months, but it no longer works. When I open a word doc I get 2 to 4 "Runtime Error 53" boxes. The linkCreation.dotm box is just re-ticked every time I open, no matter how many times I untick it and restart. And ~/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office/User Content.localized/Startup.localized/Word is empty.

This no longer works. The little button (-) of the linkCreation.dotm is in gray, and the file is no more in any Library subfolder.
