Can I use databox to copy data of 8 TB from one azure subscription to other azure subscription? If yes, there is no shipping required right as the both source and target are in azure only. In that case how it will work? Is there a link for it?

    Hello @Saha

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A and thank you for posting your questions here.

For more clarity, you were asking if you can use Azure Data Box to copy data of 8 TB from one azure subscription to other azure subscription and how it will work, also requesting a link to read more.

Infact, you can use AzCopy to copy your blobs across storage accounts. and use SAS tokens to get access to storage accounts in different subscriptions.

To copy data from one Azure subscription to another using Azure Data Box, as you asked. You can use the data copy service. The data copy service runs locally on Microsoft Azure Data Box, connects to your network-attached storage (NAS) device via SMB, and copies data to Data Box. You can use the data copy service in NAS environments where intermediate hosts might not be available or with small files that take weeks for ingestion and upload of data.

For step-by-step instructions on how to copy data via SMB on Azure Data Box, you can go to this tutorial on Microsoft's website.

@Saha Welcome to Microsoft Q&A Forum, Thank you for posting your query here!

This article provides an overview of the data transfer solutions when you have moderate to high network bandwidth in your environment and you are planning to transfer large datasets. The article also describes the recommended data transfer options and the respective key capability matrix for this scenario.

To understand an overview of all the available data transfer options, go to Choose an Azure data transfer solution.

Yes, you can use Azure Data Box to copy data of 8 TB from one Azure subscription to another Azure subscription. Azure Data Box is a family of data transfer devices designed to securely move large amounts of data into and out of Azure. It can be used to transfer data between on-premises locations and Azure, as well as between different Azure subscriptions.

Since both the source and target are in Azure, there is no need for physical shipping of the Data Box device. Instead, you will use the online version of Azure Data Box, known as "Azure Data Box online" (formerly known as "AzCopy Data Transfer").

    Here's how it works:

Prepare Data: Prepare the data that needs to be transferred from the source Azure subscription. This can be on a virtual machine, in Azure Blob storage, or any other Azure storage service.

Create an Azure Data Box Order: In the target Azure subscription, navigate to the Azure portal and search for "Data Box orders." Create a new order, specifying the source Azure subscription details and the amount of data you want to transfer (in this case, 8 TB).

Generate SAS URL: For the data transfer, you'll need to generate a Shared Access Signature (SAS) URL for the source data. This URL will be used to securely access the data during the transfer.

Start Data Transfer: Once you have the SAS URL, initiate the data transfer using the Azure Data Box online service. Provide the SAS URL and other relevant information when prompted.

Monitor the Transfer: During the transfer, you can monitor the progress and status of the data transfer in the Azure portal.

Verify Data in the Target Subscription: Once the transfer is complete, the data will be available in the target Azure subscription, and you can verify its presence.

Here is the link to the Microsoft documentation on how to use Azure Data Box online for data transfer between Azure subscriptions: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/databox-online/data-box-online-deploy-copy-data-subscription
