Add computer to OU during TS

Hi,

in my task sequence I have to enter my user which is the administrator of the machine (not best practice i know but moving on) as well as the Computer Name.

This works perfectly and have now added "OSDDomainOUName" in order to directly join the computer to a certain domain.

This also works but the problem is typing the long DISTINGUISHED NAME. I would like to just either select it from a drop down menu or just enter the company branch name (city name).

How can I accomplish this? Please in detail or a link would be much appreciated.

Cheers!

Get familiar with MDT UDI which provides nice user friendly interface during Wipe and Load installation, where you can select country (as example), it will write new variable based on what you could active step in TS to move computer account to specific OU. MDT integration might sound heavy at the start, but I simply loved UDI for its design pages. Alternatively, you could seek a powershell script or custom 3rd party hta to do the job.

    Hi, @Tonito Dux

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Q&A forum.

You may create multiple device collections based on the city name, then open the task sequence and create condition based on the variable.

You may check below article for the step-by-step guide:

I managed to accomplish what I was looking for, without MDT this time, leaving that for some better future times.

I have basically added a "office" variable on the "unknown computers" collection and left it EMPTY.

Then in the main TS I have edited the "Apply Network Settings" step by adding the preferred AD OU and setting the condition like this:

    1

A word of caution, since I had couple of offices to add, I chose the easy way and copied one step many times - it seems that SCCM does not like this because the TS would work only for the original step (office), while on all other offices it would not join the computer to the OU.

Please always re-enter the password for the account and test the damn connection!:

I am now at peace because I finally don't have to move the object manually after the TS has ended. Hope this helps someone in the future.

    Cheers!
