How can I save emails from the new version of outlook?

How can I save emails from the new version of outlook?, in the old version I only go to file and save as, but now I cannot find the option to save my emails as .msg extensions.

Click msg, in msg, on the right top where reply, reply all etc icons reside, there's also .... (tooltip: 'More actions')

When you click the .... there's a popup with actions and the option "download".

The selected msg is downloaded in download folder

Yes, please fix this issue. I am unable to open any emails that I previously saved in file explorer and I am unable to save current emails into a folder in my file explorer.

Agree!!! This is missing so many of the features I need / use. I can't go back into my old account and get the information I need to even try to put it into the New Outlook. I've used Outlook for years, and this is SOOOO frustrating, I am going to start looking for other options.

Again another nightmare. I am used to prepare business emails that I collect in one folder. Now I am not able to save the prepared emails as I want and in addition it is impossible to copy attachments from one email to another. What has Microsoft thought when they designed this new version? Are there any people from real work life that are programming this?

This must be fixed. Emails are the current correspondence file. These must be saved just like letters used to be copied and saved for a file. Non-negotiable. And no... it is not an acceptable work around to rely on deleted and sent mail folders within Outlook. Thank you.

Just a sampling of customers that are being gaslighted by Microsoft, being told the latest and greatest is on the way. But what they are actually doing is the bare minimum to get products on shelves, full functionality be damned!

There hasn't been a fully functional Microsoft product in quite some time now. They are going the video game developer route, releasing garbage to the public, then trying to fix whatever comes up with patches after making their money on sales. Pathetic is the word that first comes to mind.

None of these "workarounds" everyone is posting work for me, and I've seen several others posting the same thing.

Why is Microsoft posting workarounds almost a year and a half after releasing this terrible version of Outlook? Have the engineers been let go like at Tesla? Is this the new "normal" for the US, put garbage out and keep telling customers it will get fixed, hoping that eventually a version will work correctly?

It is really sad what is happening in corporate America. Always profits over people.

I started commenting on this message board in May of 2023, and to this day not a single person from Microsoft has answered a question, or offered a solution to THEIR problems with Outlook.

Of the many problems Outlook STILL has after more than a year and a half, one of the more irritating is my legitimate emails going to my Junk folder. No matter how many times I have used every option there is to show the email is legitimate and that I want the email, it still goes to my Junk folder.

These emails are financial related (primary banking, retirement account, etc.), and because they go to my Junk folder EVERY time, I now have to search my Junk folder EVERY DAY, no matter how many emails are in the folder. This defeats the purpose of having a Junk folder if I have to look through a hundred Junk emails to find the two that are legitimate.

Microsoft must be using Boeing's playbook on how to run a company, because they have been an epic failure over the past couple of years.

Not only has Microsoft cemented themselves as the worst software company on the planet, but Acer seems to be joining them in competing with Boeing for who can be the worst corporation out there.

I have written and called multiple times to both Microsoft and Acer about their terrible products, and in the past year and a half that I have had their epic failures of products, no one will even attempt to fix the problems they are causing with their horrible business practices.

They know with their monopolies that most people can't get away from their products, mainly because corporations are using Windows the majority of the time. So, when an actual customer calls or writes about a problem, we just get their middle fingers and have to live with the fact they will never care about the average customer, because they don't have to.

Today, November 25, 2024, my Outlook has be almost unusable the entire day. I keep getting error messages (see inserted image) in the individual folders instead of seeing what emails are saved in the folders.

This has been going on since 8am and it is now 3pm. I cannot open my emails in any folder, I keep receiving these error messages in all folders.

Another in a LONG list of problems with just Outlook, never mind the issues with Windows itself. Microsoft is putting out pure garbage and they don't care because of the monopoly.

I would like to see the .PST file export feature available in New Outlook. Here is an explanation of my Use Case for this feature. I work in a manufacturing industry as an automation engineering and construction designer. There is a potential for engineering or construction changes to create unintended consequences. Therefore, I prefer to keep a historical record for my emails, in an offline storage location for retrieval if needed. It is kind of a good legal safeguard. With legacy Outlook, I placed all of my emails under a Backup folder, then I can export entire folder as .PST file. Simple and safe and the data can be restored very easily when needed. My IT training also taught me that my data should be backed up in three locations. Microsoft, please include the Import/Export or some other mail backup feature in New Outlook.

Hi Wayne, Happy Holidays,

I hope you receive some type of help from Microsoft, but I wanted to let you know not many of us that have been complaining for over a year are holding our breath for any type of a fix from them.

Read through the comments on here, of which I started back in May of 2023, showing how frustrated people have been. And the lack of any type of actual reply from Microsoft shows how they really feel. When I say "actual reply", I mean from someone in their IT department that actually worked on Outlook, not some intern or fanboy of the company.

It is January 5, 2025, and Microsoft is making sure they start the year as poorly as they ended the year in 2024.

Not only do I receive my legitimate emails in my Junk folder after almost two years of trying to get Microsoft to help, but they do not even trust email they send to me themselves. Here is a screen shot of my One Drive notification just today, and as you can see, Microsoft doesn't trust Microsoft.

It would be funny if it wasn't so pathetic.

Currently, the new Outlook does not support the ability to open or save .msg and .eml files, you can switch back to the classic Outlook at any time by clicking the toggle button in the top right corner of the window.

The new Outlook is not yet complete, and some options may not be available or work as expected. Many features of our current products are designed and upgraded based on customers’ feedback. Someone has already submitted this feedback, you can vote for him: Add Save option for emails in "New Outlook" (.msg file)

This is January 2024, and there has been no fix for this problem. Why is Microsoft making inferior products and putting them out there like they are completed products? This has been going on for the past couple of years, with Windows 10, then 11, with this new Outlook, that has updated a couple of times in the past couple of months, but gets more and more difficult to use. Then to state that CUSTOMERS are making the required changes to Microsoft products is so mind blowingly wrong. It really is getting to be time to switch to Apple, as Microsoft does not care about the customer experience, and they show us that every day.

Has this been fixed yet? The new outlook does not have a save option in May 2024. Anyone know if this incident is fixed? I would regard this an incident because the old outlook has it, minimum expectation is to have same user features moved to the new version at the minimum before talking about enhancements.

Try this workaround - Start new email. Then drag and drop email you want to save to your drive. When you have that email as an attachment, click on the dropdown arrow and select Download. From there you can save your email to your drive.

This "workaround" does not work for me, and I've seen several others commenting it does not work for them, either. Microsoft should be ashamed of themselves that almost a year and a half after releasing the "new" Outlook, it is not even close to being ready for customers to use, especially professionally. As you can see, the message I'm commenting on is from May 8, 2023. This is when I started contacting Microsoft about my Outlook issues, of which there are several. And as you can see from my post, today is February 4, 2025, and NONE of the issues Microsoft was told about from their users have been rectified. The rollout of the "new" Outlook has been a total disaster with no end in sight.

I was not planning on leaving one last comment about the many things Microsoft is doing wrong, or about how terrible their software has become, but just this morning, an email from my Credit Union that I have been banking with for 30 years was in my Junk folder, asking if I wanted to trust the sender.

This is the issue I have commented about the most on several message boards, all with ZERO feedback or help from Microsoft. And this is after a supposed Microsoft representative had me change multiple settings on my computer back in May of 2023 that resulted in ALL of my emails going to the Junk folder. It has never been "normal" since then, even after spending hours trying to undo what the "representative" had me do. Multiple legitimate emails in the Junk folder on a daily basis, no matter what computer I use, no matter what browser I use, no matter how many times or ways I have selected these emails as legitimate.

As the proud new owner of a Macbook Air, I can now say Good Riddance to this terrible company, their terrible software, and their terrible "customer service", if you want to call it that.

The workaround that I've used is to:

go to the "..." button in the upper right

select "Other Reply Actions"

select "Forward as Attachment"

I forward the message to myself as an attachment

I can then download the attachment.

It's clunky, but it works. Let's hope they can get this fixed soon. I miss the days when I could just drag an email right from Outlook to a folder.

It works in that it saves it, but it doesn't open as it is a file type not recognized by Notepad or Outlook. How do you open it?

This hasn't worked for me and many others following these threads. It has been about a year with the new Outlook, and as far as I can tell, there has not been any improvement from the customer feedback suggestions as Microsoft stated would happen (please see below reply to a customers question/complaint).

This worked for me...

Click on the three dots on the top right of the email and the select "Save" from the list.

This saves the email as a document in your "Downloads".

Go to Downloads in your Documents folder and drag the file (should be at the top) into a folder you choose.

Same thing Happens to my emails. This has been going on (along with other bugs) with Outlook since at least May of 2023. So many others are having issues, especially people that need to use it professionally, and Microsoft has done absolutely nothing about any of Outlook's bugs.

So many problems, and not a single Microsoft response. It's almost like they don't care. This latest, "If you use Edge, try this" reply. This is Microsoft trying to go the route Apple did with their proprietary programs. I was recently gifted a new laptop (I had no plans on getting another Windows PC), and it comes preset in Windows S mode that does not let you download ANYTHING to your computer if it isn't in the Microsoft store. This is a huge problem, because I use multiple browsers (none of which are Edge), and I could not download and install them unless I left this mode. This is all under the guise that Microsoft is "keeping your computer safer". Okay. I have had multiple issues with Outlook well before the latest version (the one that no one seems to be able to use, because as Microsoft admits, it isn't complete), and I just now had an ongoing issue of an email from a bank I've been banking with for over 10 years going to my Junk folder. This has been happening for about 9 months now, with ZERO help from Microsoft.

Apple, here I come!

On Outlook, right click on the email and click on Save As. I was able to download it and but only save as .eml file not .msg

This error only occurs we I try to save the MSG to a network drive. I can save and open locally. If I copy the local file to a network share, it breaks. Even if you copy it back to a local drive. It does not matter what format I use for saving. As long as the destination is a network drive, it either lets you save but not open or it does not even let you save.

It's been more than a year and a half since the "new" Outlook was released, and Microsoft has not fixed any of the problems that showed up right away, or any of the new problems since then. All of this "We want your feedback" baloney is just that, baloney. No one at Microsoft has ever responded to my questions / comments on this message board, the Microsoft general board, the Feedback Hub on my computer, or answered a phone call to their fake support numbers.
