I just installed Windows 11 and i am getting an error message with DCDiag on my Windows 11 box, this error message does not appear on my Windows 10 box. Is DCDiag not supported on Windows 11? I am running into this same issue now that we have introduced our first server 2025 Domain Controller into our AD Infrastructure (single forest, single domain, multi-site).
What I have found is that if we execute the DCDiag services test from a Windows 10/Server 2019 based PC, and test against a remote domain controller running Server 2025, the services test fails with the error below (site and DC names redacted):

Error message:

Invalid service type: DnsCache on [DCName], current value WIN32_OWN_PROCESS, expected value WIN32_SHARE_PROCESS

However, if we run the same test from another Server 2025 machine with ADDS tools installed, and remotely test the same domain controller, OR if we run DCDiag locally from that DC, the services test succeeds. It appears there are some differences in either how the DNSCache service is run on a server 2025 DC (as evident by the WIN32_OWN_PROCESS vs WIN32_SHARE_PROCESS message), or differences within the DCDiag tool itself between windows, where the older version is unable to successfully test a remote DC with a newer windows server version.

dcdiag is available if you have the Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) or Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services (AD LDS) server role installed which wouldn't be the case on a desktop operating system.

not really. would like to find the answer why it does NOT work on Windows 11. Windows 10 is fine.
Copying domain controller tools to a desktop OS is not supported as far as I know. You could use the feedback hub to request or submit this.

dcdiag is included in the RSAT tools which are supported on win10/11 pro and enterprise. I can confirm this same issue where the command works on win10 but not on win11.

Ok - it's obvious this MVP doesn't have a clue. If he read the question and attempted to provide a qualified answer, he'd realize you can have the tools installed on your windows 11 or windows 10 box to run these tests against the machines running AD DS.
I can confirm that as soon as I upgraded to Windows 11 my remote dcdiag test returned this error. Running it on one of my Windows 10 admin boxes does not.
