Gamer Spotlight: trixie360 interviews mutant dog 123

He’s a display developer in Ontario who is SO good at 1 vs 100, he was the inspiration for the Trivia Mutant level. Big ups to mutant dog 123 !

trixie360: What’s the story behind your gamertag?

mutantdog123

mutant dog 123: It goes back to my inability to draw a dog for a project in middle school and my brother finding it and naming it Mutant Dog. From that it turned into a (in my opinion) terrible comic strip that I drew for friends in high school and published in university. I don't recall how the 123 ended up in there, except that I think Mutant Dog wasn't available by itself at the time.

trixie360: Where do you live?

mutant dog 123: Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.

trixie360: What do you do for a living?

mutant dog 123: I'm a display developer for a local telecommunication company. I spend the day working on LCDs and I go home and play on my old 27" CRT TV.

trixie360: What’s the worst or weirdest job you’ve ever had?

mutant dog 123: I'm fortunate in never having a terrible job, but I did work at a children's bookstore during high school which means I had Bananaphone stuck in my head years before most people.

trixie360: “my cellular, bananular phoooooone…” How long have you been on Xbox LIVE?

mutant dog 123: A bit over a year now since I've owned my own Xbox, although I first created my account as a silver member to use at a friend's house.

trixie360: Do you have an arch enemy on Xbox LIVE?

mutant dog 123: Datasquid. No, not really, but that's who's Xbox I created the gamer tag on, and I've probably played the most number of games with him.

trixie360: What’s your Xbox set-up like? Big-screen TV? Dolby sound?

mutant dog 123: Just a boring 27" CRT using the built in speakers.

trixie360: What’s the best feature of Xbox LIVE?

mutant dog 123: Probably a toss up between achievements, and being able to see what my friends are playing or what they've played in the past. It's nice to ask someone you know what they think of a title before you buy it.

trixie360: What is your favorite multiplayer Xbox game?

mutant dog 123: This is obvious, 1 vs 100 Live.

trixie360: What is your favorite single player Xbox game?

mutant dog 123: I've probably sunk the most time into GTA IV and the add on stories. I'm still stuck at 97.5% complete though.

trixie360: What is your favorite Xbox LIVE Arcade game?

mutant dog 123: Trials HD. It can be frustrating to try the same jump 20 or 30 times, but it's a nice feeling when you complete it.

trixie360: What do you think is the best game of all time?

mutant dog 123: Best seems like a subjective term. Is it Donkey Kong which got me hooked when I was 4 and playing on my ColecoVision? Is it Sherlock, a puzzle game for the PC which is fairly simple but I've been addicted to it since the early 90's, or is it Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4, which had the most challenging but enjoyable learning curve I've ever experienced. They're all great in their own ways.

trixie360: What do you think is the best film of all time?

mutant dog 123: Rushmore is probably my favourite film, but I also really like Tron, much to the despair of my wife who didn't see it until 1999 and was not as impressed by the SFX at that point.

trixie360: What do you think is the best album of all time?

mutant dog 123: Sloan's Twice Removed. It took me three years to discover everything that album had to offer.

trixie360: Rock Band or Guitar Hero?

mutant dog 123: Definitely Rock Band. It's actually the reason I bought my Xbox, because I knew I wanted to buy songs via DLC, and while I had another console that supports Rock Band, at that time it didn't offer the store.

trixie360: What’s the funniest thing you’ve ever heard on Xbox LIVE?

mutant dog 123: I had my party crashed by a notorious 1 vs 100 "crew" in the first season. I think they were trying to upset us, but instead it was hilarious, at least to me. I'm not sure if everyone in my party enjoyed it.

trixie360: What is your greatest Xbox LIVE moment?

mutant dog 123: Another easy one. Beating the Mob on the first night of the US/Canada beta for 1vs100. I had been playing well at the end of the Canadian beta, but I didn't know how well I would do up against so many people.

trixie360: What’s your favorite TV show?

mutant dog 123: Arrested Development. I know, so unique, but I'm still amazed at some of the jokes they got away with on network TV.

trixie360: Who is your inner rock star?

mutant dog 123: Jay Ferguson of  Sloan. He's the quiet one who doesn't attract a lot of attention, but it wouldn't be the same without him.

trixie360: If they made a movie about your life, who should play you?

mutant dog 123: Dave Foley. He can play the awkward side of me, as well as the sarcastic side that comes out once you get to know me.

trixie360: What’s your karaoke song?

mutant dog 123: Given that I tend to freeze up when asked to sing in front of anyone, I can't say I have one. Every so often when the house is empty, I secretly pick up the mic and stumble through Rock Band though, so we'll go with “Once in a Lifetime” by Talking Heads.

trixie360: Favorite cartoon character?

mutant dog 123: It probably comes down to either Snorlax or Munchlax from the Pokemon cartoons. I'm not big into the games themselves, but I'm obsessed with the cartoon and the toys.

trixie360: I’m laughing at you on the inside. What super power would you like to have?

mutant dog 123: I'm going to go with teleportation. I could sleep in later, and when it's cold, I can always spend an hour somewhere warm.

trixie360: If you could trade places with anyone for one day, who would it be?

mutant dog 123: Shigeru Miyamoto, assuming that I also get to have his insight and creativity, and not that I'm left to screw up all sorts of upcoming video games for a day.

trixie360: What celebrity would be the worst roommate?

mutant dog 123: Thinking back to his days on community access television, Tom Green, especially if he has a show at the time.

trixie360: How many people are on your Friends List?

mutant dog 123: 28 right now.

trixie360: Who's your favorite Superhero?

mutant dog 123: Mr. Incredible, but I'm a big Pixar fan.

trixie360: Hot celeb you’d like to be stranded on a desert island with?

mutant dog 123: Zooey Deschanel, but I hope she has survival skills.

trixie360: She could sing to you, while you did the survival junk. If you could be any video game character, who would it be?

mutant dog 123: I'm cheating because it's not out yet, but Scott Pilgrim from the upcoming Scott Pilgrim game that's due out this year.

trixie360: What’s the worst food you’ve ever eaten?

mutant dog 123: I didn't actually eat it, but I visited a night market in Taipei, and just passing the stinky tofu stands was enough. My hosts would keep offering me food from other stands, and I'd have to decline because I knew I'd smell the tofu again and lose my appetite.

trixie360: What’s the first video game you every played?
Donkey Kong on the ColecoVision is the first one I can name, but I'm skipping over some titles on my family's TRS-80 and whatever arcade games my parent's were kind enough to give me a quarter for and find me a chair to stand on so I could reach the controls.

trixie360: What’s the last book you read?

mutant dog 123: Generation A by Douglas Coupland .

trixie360: I thought that was a typo, (i.e. was meant to be Generation X) but DC does indeed have a new novel. Will have to check that out! If you could go on tour with any band, which would it be?

mutant dog 123: For the adventure and scope of production, it would be U2, but it would be even more interesting if I could go back and time and follow them on the Zoo TV tour.

trixie360: What do you predict will be the 'next big thing' in gaming?

mutant dog 123: If I believe the press, it's 3D TVs, but personally, I'm not convinced I want to wear glasses all the time to play games.

trixie360: What do you think is the best thing about the Xbox 360?

mutant dog 123: 1 vs 100 of course. I tell my friends with other consoles that they're missing out by not being able to play.

trixie360: What is the Xbox 360 Achievement that was hardest to get?

mutant dog 123: Dare Devil in GTAIV has probably taken the most time, but it's not challenging, at least with an FAQ by your side. When I finally get Endangered Species, that will definitely take the title.

trixie360: What would you like to be doing in ten years?

mutant dog 123: More of the same. I have a good job, wonderful life, stay involved in the community. Some of the details might change, but I'm pretty fortunate.
