3 Years, 3 Pounds
Today marks my 3 year anniversary on the CLR security team (not counting my internship, which I suppose would bring me to 3 years 3 months). We have a tradition on the CLR team where on the anniversary of your hire, you bring in an equivalent number of pounds of candy as the number of years you've worked at Microsoft. Traditionally, this is supposed to be M&Ms, my first couple of years I went with the Peanut Butter variety. However, recently I've been in a Twix mood, so today I've brought in a pound each of Twix, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, and Hershey's Miniatures.
In addition to bringing in candy, it's traditional to do a numeric summary of your time on the team in a mail announcing the location of the candy. Here's my anniversary mail (the more southerly candy location referring to another teammate in the north wing of the building who also has his 3 year anniversary today):
From:
Shawn Farkas
Sent: Friday, July 29, 2005 10:06 AM
To: CLR team
Subject: 3 years, 3 pounds
Adding to the run of July anniversaries today is also my 3 year … although the numbers skew a bit more towards 2 than 3:
2 Offices
2 Office mates
2 Managers
2 Versions of the CLR
2 Service Packs
Outside of work, the last 3 years have seen:
310
Yankees wins (36 against the Red Sox [if only that number was 37 …]), and 1 World Series appearance
27 J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets wins (only 1 against the Pats), and 2 playoff appearances
38 UMass Hoops wins (0 over Boston College, 1 over Temple, and one sweet sweet 61-59 toppling of UConn)
109 Knicks wins (5 against Miami)
3 pounds of various candy outside 2221, your more southerly candy location

That 37th game is the only one that mattered this millenium (although the boone homerun win in Game 7 the year before would have mattered if only the Yankees could have represented the American League honorably.
I am going to have to start wearing my "2000" shirt, a replacement for Yankee's fan's "1918" shirts.
Congrats on three years, but let me also hope that you need to bring in at least 83 pounds of candy before you can list 1 World Series victory. - Anonymous
