Chooo! Choooo!

Redmond, WA, January 19, 2007 – Following the successful release of Microsoft Flight Simulator X, the Aces Studio is using the same technology to develop a new version of Microsoft Train Simulator. Unrelated to our previous Train Simulator development efforts, this version will be an all-new product built on the Flight Simulator X platform, the culmination of 25 years of product development and technology.

It’s too early to discuss the details of this product, but we look forward to sharing more information later this year.

Call me a cynic, but Microsoft really dropped the ball on Train Simulator last time around, so I'm not real optimistic about a new version. Even Flight Simulator was regarded by a lot of people as lacking the performance and stability normally associated with previous releases of that product. In addition, I think they are going to be years behind Roku's Rail Simulator that, AFAIK, is scheduled to release in a few months. Roku has been working on this for years - how fast or slow could a new release get done? In time for the holiday shopping season in 2007? Probably not, if I were to guess.
