Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 reaches RTM!
Yesterday we announced that Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 has reached the RTM (Release To Manufacturing) milestone! With this very exciting announcement, I wanted to bring some resources and information to you that can help you in learning more about SQL Server 2008 R2.
You want performance? You got it! SQL Server 2008 R2 is setting records for performance and price/performance on industry standard benchmarks. Five TPC-E benchmark results on SQL Server 2008 R2 published to date with five hardware partners (Dell, HP, NEC, IBM, and Unisys) show how SQL Server is driving scalability to new levels on x64 servers. The top four performance results are held by SQL Server 2008 R2 as well as the top price/performance result. Using the new support in R2 for more than 64 logical processors, the published results span the range from 2 to 16 CPUs, 24 to 96 cores, and 24 to 128 hardware threads. No one else has shown performance and scalability on TPC-E, the most rigorous industry-standard measure of OLTP performance available today. You can read more about this on the SQL Server blog or the Microsoft SQL Server benchmark website.
