Hi, We are looking into data Modelling Tools for Microsoft (we work with the Azure stack and it would be great if we could use a modelling tool that belonged in the same microsoft family

Oracle has Data Modeller.

"Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler is a free graphical tool that enhances productivity and simplifies data modeling tasks. Using Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler users can create, browse and edit, logical, relational, physical, multi-dimensional, and data type models"

I found a post from 2010 talking about Visio but this was a while ago and I wondered if the situation had changed?

It would be great if there was a tool in Azure itsself?

    @Debbie Edwards

Your best bet is Erwin at the moment.

I had recently evaluated different data modeling tools and chose Erwin ( though the UI is not great because it provides maximum options and has a very good support team to support issues with the drivers).

You may also look at Lucid Chart which only supports a few commonly used Dbs but has a good UI. DBMS directly supported by Lucidchart for ERD import are Salesforce, PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, and Oracle.

Lucid Chart does not support ERDs from Azure, GCP and Amazon.

On the other hand, Erwin provides a lot of options which includes NoSQL Dbs modeling plus connecting to various Cloud systems, here is a link for your reference -

Erwin can reverse engineer out of the box

Plus, has an import tool to bring other formats (see below) from Apache, Google, AWS etc

    Hello @Debbie Edwards ,

Thanks for the question and using MS Q&A platform.

As we understand the ask here is that you would want to know if there is an Azure native Data modelling tool similar to that of Oracle Data Modeler. Please correct me if I'm not clear.

As far as I know, I don't think there is an Azure native Data modeling tool yet.
At present based on the Azure resource type you may have to pick the supported third-party data modeling tool. For eg: ERwin’s Data Modeler tool support for Azure SQL DB, sqldbm supports MS SQL server, Azure Synapse Analytics.

As it turns out at this time that the product feature you are looking is not supported, may I request you to please log your feedback in IDEAS forum here: IDEAS forum.

Azure Product group does monitor the request and they can plan for the implementation in future. Once you log the feature request you will also be notified on the status of the request. Please do share the feedback link once it is posted so that other with similar idea can up-vote and comment on it.

    Hope this info helps.

We use sqldbm for mssql and it has dbt integration if you will be interested in using airflow+dbt as a ETL stack instead of mssis https://azuremarketplace.microsoft.com/en-us/marketplace/apps/sqldbm1583438206845.sqldbm-data-modeling-tool?tab=overview
