forum wasted space

Hi
Is there some reason that the design of this forum wastes so much space?
For example, the full length column(s) showing the Answers and Votes only!
This is very poor design in my opinion when that space could be better used to display more of the post content etc.

I did try to do that, but it ended up here (wherever 'here' is)
Have tried again -lets see if this one works.
