I was using ADS for a long while ... mainly for SQL Queries to run. Also a little bit for editing. Now I see that ADS will be retired in a year and they recommended to switch to Visual Studio Code. Well, VS Code is not intended for SQL stuff ... but still could run MS SQL queries and etc. Hence, I installed mssql extension and SQLTools extension and started to play with VS Code to run queries and etc. While it's basicaly working ... but still does not fit my needs and not even close in options compare to ADS. My question: since I am using quite basic types of queries and not interested in any 'extra' features in ADS ... could I continue to use ADS even after it will be retired. I use local install of ADS on my PC ... hence, I wonder if it will be somehow blocked for me.

I can't imagine that they will time-bomb it, but it will continue to work. But there will be no updates of any sort, so by time you may face problems when trying to use new features.

I guess that the SQL support in VS code will continue to evolve over the year until ADS retires. If there are any specific features you think are lacking, you could file and issue at the Github site for the mssql extension: https://github.com/microsoft/vscode-mssql.

And, of course, if you have a Windows PC, there is also SQL Server Management Studio.
