Alternative to Azure VPN CLient that works with Azure AD

Our company has a strict policy forbidding the use of Microsoft Store. Therefore, I have the need to find a client that can be packaged as a regular setup (not msix) to be pushed on the users. Any solutions?

That was before the Azure VPN Client was moved to the store. Now, when I download the "client", all I get is a zip file with the certificate and the configuration, but no VPN client.

Please use below link to download the VPN client.

Download the latest version of the Azure VPN Client install files using one of the following links:

Install using Client Install files: https://aka.ms/azvpnclientdownload.

Install directly, when signed in on a client computer: Microsoft Store.

Install the Azure VPN Client to each computer.

Verify that the Azure VPN Client has permission to run in the background. For steps, see Windows background apps.

To verify the installed client version, open the Azure VPN Client. Go to the bottom of the client and click ... ->? Help. In the right pane, you can see the client version number.

My understanding was that your requirement is to avoid MS Store and not the apps available in it.

However, it appears you would like to not use any app that is available in MS Store. Apologies on the misunderstanding.

The official recommendation from Microsoft for Azure P2S VPN is to use Azure VPN Client only. If you do not have access to MS Store, you can leverage https://aka.ms/azvpnclientdownload where the set up file is readily available.

Experts from Q&A would have expertise over Azure/MS products, but the same cannot be said for 3rd party pools. Unfortunately, we will not be able to recommend any 3rd party tools.

I have verified this and found that, the download contents vary depends on the authentication method you selected. If you select Azure Certificate, exe package will be downloaded for x86 and x64

If suppose, your authentication method selected in Azure Active Directory, package will contain only the certificate and config file

That, too, is incorrect. As I mentioned, our company policy does not allow msix apps to be packaged.

Currently, we are not aware of any other application other than Azure VPN Client for Windows.

Should you believe this feature could add value to Azure Services, you may submit a new feature ask in Azure Feedback Hub forum requesting this feature.

All the feedback shared in these forums are monitored and reviewed by the Microsoft engineering teams responsible for building Azure.

Based on the P2S method here is the support matric Azure VPN gateway Clients:

If you are using Open VPN client type, then OpenVPN connect can be used with the supported version as per the above matrix. Feel free to explore the hyperlinks in the matrix for detailed instructions.
