I am writing to report an issue I am experiencing while trying to sign up for the Microsoft 365 Developer Program. I have followed the steps outlined on the Microsoft Learn website, but after entering my personal details and phone number, I do not receive the verification code message. Instead, I receive the following error message:
"We can't continue with the signup process right now due to an internal server error. Please try again later.
MS-CorrelationId: 00000000-ea3c-444e-a33c-9af16e48c928
Code: 50001"
I have tried signing up multiple times, but the error persists. I have also tried clearing my browser's cookies and cache, using a different browser, and verifying my internet connection, but none of these actions have resolved the issue.
I noticed that another user has reported the same problem on the Microsoft website on February 2nd, but has not yet received a response.
I would greatly appreciate it if you could investigate this issue and provide me with a solution. I need to access the developer account to continue with my studies and use the online tools.

To activate the Microsoft 365 Developer Program sandbox, you typically need a Visual Studio subscription. Specifically, Visual Studio Professional or Visual Studio Enterprise subscriptions qualify for this Microsoft 365 Developer Program sandbox. Kindly check with your eligibility before proceeding one more time for signup process or you can give another try with new Visual studio subscription. You say "typically" need a subscription. Why is there a qualifier? Why the mystery?
As for the actual Visual Studio subscription, I don't have $1000 to subscribe for something I will only use to access the Developer Program, which is supposed to be FREE for people who are students or learning for their own personal projects.
But alas, it looks like Microsoft has decided that the Developer Program will be a paid service. What a disaster!
From what I have gathered, the program is free and valid for 90 days. After that, one needs to prove that they are actively developing to keep using it for free. (I think there was a lot of abuse in the past, where individuals signed up for the program to get free access to the MS 365 apps. Hence, the reason why one needs to show active development beyond the initial 90-day trial period). So far, the answers have been dead-end, and with the latest one being vague about needing a paid VS subscription. What a let-down!
