Failed to start service 'WSSD Agent Service (wssdagent)'. (L1209)

Hello all,

I am having an issue when trying to deploy EFLOW on Windows 10 Pro (22H2). I am getting this error: “Failed to start service ‘WSSD Agent Service (wssdagent)’. (L1209)”. When I checked the WSSD logs, I found: “The agent could not find the ‘C:\ProgramData\wssdagent\v0.10.8-alpha.10\config.yaml’ config file. Looking for older versions to upgrade from…”.

Could anyone please help me resolve this issue?

We are trying to repro this internally.

Could you follow the below steps and let us know.

You have enabled Hypervisor - Install-Hyper-V - Crucial for wssd agent installation.

Execution policy of local machine is all signed.
Get-ExecutionPolicy -List #get sign list Set-ExecutionPolicy -ExecutionPolicy AllSigned -Force #for sign

Start wssdagent manually if it is running
Get-Service -Name wssdagent # checks wssdagent status
#If WSSDAgent isn't running, try starting the service manually using the cmdlet:
Start-Service -name WSSDAgent.

Please un-install your Azure IOT edge and EFLOW then reboot and re-install again.

Check for networking section for installation of virtual network switch and nested virtualization if it is a virtual machine instead of local desktop.

Hello Camilo Vasquez, Use Invoke-WebRequest -useb aka.ms/iotedge-win | Invoke-Expression; Uninstall-IoTEdge -Force

uninstall Azure IoT Edge on Windows using PowerShell.

The above issue you are facing with the WSSD Agent Service (wssdagent) failing to start while deploying EFLOW on Windows 10 Pro (22H2).

To reslove it follow the below steps:

Run the following PowerShell command in an elevated (Admin) PowerShell session to verify and enable Hyper-V:

Enable-WindowsOptionalFeature -Online -FeatureName Microsoft-Hyper-V -All -NoRestart

Then restart your system.

Make sure the execution policy is set to AllSigned by:

Get-ExecutionPolicy -List

If it is not AllSigned, set it manually:

Set-ExecutionPolicy -ExecutionPolicy AllSigned -Force

Check if the service is running by:

Get-Service -Name wssdagent

If it is stopped, try starting it manually:

Start-Service -Name wssdagent

If it fails, check the event logs for more details:

Get-EventLog -LogName System -Newest 50 | Where-Object {$_.EntryType -eq "Error"}

Here are some common troubleshooting steps mentioned in the documentation:

Ensure that the configuration file for the WSSD Agent Service is present at C:\ProgramData\wssdagent\config.yaml.

Make sure that the Hypervisor is enabled using the command Install-Hyper-V.

Set the execution policy to AllSigned using the command Set-ExecutionPolicy -ExecutionPolicy AllSigned -Force. Try starting the service manually using Start-Service -Name WSSDAgent.

If the issue persists, try uninstalling and then reinstalling Azure IoT Edge for Linux on Windows (EFLOW).
