While researching on Serverless options for Azure SQL Database I came across a link that provides some insight, but I am still not able to follow.

What service tier in vCPU AND DTU models support it. Additionally whether it is supported in Azure SQL Managed Instance?

    Hi Devesh,

We appreciate your query over Q&A platform. Here is the information to solve the problem you are experiencing.

What service tier in vCPU AND DTU models support it?

Azure SQL Database supports both the DTU-based and vCore-based purchasing models.

Azure SQL Database: Supports both DTU-based and vCore-based models, with vCore models allowing the use of vCPUs, and DTU models not explicitly indicating vCPU usage.

Service Tiers: Basic, Standard and Premium.

whether it is supported in Azure SQL Managed Instance?

Azure SQL Managed Instance does not support the DTU-based purchasing model. It only supports the vCore-based model, which allows you to independently select the number of vCores (virtual CPUs) and the amount of memory and storage for your instance.

The vCore-based model offers the following service tiers in Azure SQL Managed Instance:

    • General Purpose: Balanced compute and storage, using standard SSDs.
    • Business Critical: High performance and availability, using local SSDs.
    • Hyperscale: Highly scalable for large databases with significant growth.
