So I'm trying to fix up a computer I bought from a co worker about a year ago, I recently built a new pc for myself for the first time ever so that meant I didn't need the other one, I asked another buddy of mine if he wanted it so we can play together and he said yes so I started to get new parts for it.
Mind you the specs it previously had where
Intel I core 5
A GeForce gtx 1060
A Seagate barracuda 1Tb hard drive
Another co worker of mine gave me some advice on cloning it to a m.2 drive with I did successfully with no issues that followed
And from there I upgraded the i-5 to a i-7 ans still no issues
But I then wondered about the power supply which is something I should have done first but I wasn't sure. So instead I decided to upgrade the Gpu from the Evea GeForce gtx 1060 to a Nvida gtx 3060 and that's when the problem began
At first it seemed to work fine, I started up Eldin ring ran around for an hour and wanted to see if it would have problems starting back up. And I was right it did, in fact what happens specifically is the following order of events
It turns on
I see the home screen
I enter the password
Then before I can click on any icon like steam or discord it blue screens and says "critical process died"
Now I know alot of errors you can just look up but I spent a day looking for what might have been the reason for why this keeps happening, alot of things pointed towards "insufficient power" or "hardware incapatibility" and "software issue"
I decided to start with insufficient power, I popped open the hood of the computer and the psu could only push out 450 watts so I got a new power supply that's 750 watts. It first I thought I fixed it and started playing again but I had my suspicions so I restarted tye pc again, and I was right to do so because "critical process died" came back.
So I thought maybe it's the new gpu? So I took it out and put the old one back in, but it still continued to crash. Since I'm still new to pc build craft I ruled out maybe it's not the gpu then idk I'm new to this. then I found something about cmos battery, and thought maybe the lack of power might of done something with it? Lucky for me I had a spare motherboard (I ordered the wrong one for the pc I built) and it turned out it had a cmos battery of the same manufacturer on it so I replaced it with that one. But it also didn't work so now I'm back to square one
