i tried making an alias for my xbox account primary but it says i entered the wrong microsoft account when i tried to verify it

I'm trying to change the account I'm using on my xbox to another account i made. I added the account to alias but now i need to make it primary. I got an email to my account to verify so i clicked on it and it said to log in the email. i logged it in with the new account that i was trying to make primary, but it said "email address couldn't be verified because the wrong Microsoft account may have been entered. try signing in with another Microsoft account." okay cool, but it won't let me sign in with another account. any time i retry to verify it to enter another account it just says the same thing, not letting me log in with my current account. what do i do?
