A co-worker's My Files under Recent in Sharepoint keep asking to "Open this file?" instead of opening in Microsoft Excel

Hello,

One of our employees is trying to open recently viewed files on our Sharepoint site.

Issue: He clicks the "My Files" button and selects any of the Excel files. A box then appears asking to open the file. If I try the same on my computer, the file automatically opens Excel in the web browser.

Troubleshooting: Had him try a different computer, cleared browser cache, confirmed Microsoft Edge was up to date, reset Edge, and cleared Edge cache.

    Hi @Drew H,

I can also reproduce this issue in my environment. I‘m afraid this is a bug or there is something wrong in the backend.

When I firstly open the My Files tab, it shows like below. And when I click any files, the "Open this file?" message prompts.

Strangely, if I refresh the page or click other tabs like "My news" and click "My files" again, it shows like below screenshot. Now when I click any files in it, the file will be automatically opened in the web browser.

So I guess this is a bug. I suggest you directly contact Microsoft and report this issue to them. I believe this will be fixed in time.
